Clive Barker - Books of Blood - Madefire

Update - Books of Blood, Issue 1

Madefire is set to release Issue 1 of The Books of Blood on their Motion Book platform this Halloween...

Subsequent stories from Volume 1 of The Books of Blood are set to be published as part of a 12-part series of Motion Books. Ultimately, the Seraphim team of writers plans to create versions of every story in the six volumes of The Books of Blood in order, together with bonus Motion Books adaptations of Clive's other "more obscure" stories.

Madefire : "Two paranormal researchers, Reg and Mary, hire a psychic, Simon, to assist in their investigation of a haunted house found at the address of 65 Tollington Place. Simon is a showman who has his own flashy methods of drawing out spirits. What Simon ultimately summons is something that no one involved in the investigation will soon forget.
"This first chapter of the Books of Blood series is Clive Barker's legendary début into the world of horror literature. Adapted into motion by writer Mark Alan Miller (Next Testament, Hellraiser) and artist Sam Shearon, The Book of Blood pushes the limits of the motion comic platform and the boundaries of terror.
"Download, if you dare, and discover that everybody is a book of blood, because wherever we're opened, we're red.

Liam Sharp (Madefire) : "Clive Barker is one of the true masters of modern horror. We're thrilled to help bring more of his exceptional vision to the Madefire Motion Book format.
"Clive's stories are so nuanced, visual and literate, and the living aspects of Motion Books afford them new and terrifyingly visceral possibilities. We're extremely excited to work with Seraphim, and the exceptional artist Sam Shearon, to adapt this seminal series. Sam brings a near life-like cinematic sensibility and horrific detail to the project that should delight fans."

Filip Sablik (Boom! Studios) : "The horror genre has always benefited greatly from the use of sound and movement to enhance the shock and suspense of a scene, so Clive Barker's Next Testament was a natural and fitting title to begin our relationship with Madefire. I look forward to working with Madefire to make more of our great titles available as Motion Books."

Mark Miller : "Madefire did an incredible job adapting the comic to form. It was like reading the book for the very first time, which is insane, because I wrote it!"

Ben Meares: "We're adapting all of the Books of Blood with Madefire. We've got a tremendously talented artist named Sam Shearon who's going to be illustrating at least everything from Volume 1 and Mark wrote the adaptation for Book of Blood and I've written the adaptation for the subsequent five stories and we're just building Book of Blood right now - actually Gareth [Barker] is our builder on it, he uses the tool and he's taken to it like a duck to water!"

Clive : "It's somewhere between a movie and a comic book - it's a moving comic book - with music [by Chris Velasco]. It's actually a great way to tell, to have the freedom to tell, let's say, In the Hills, The Cities... it's very hard to make it as a movie, but there is a way of making it big in this form so, yeah, I think it's pretty exciting."

Sam Shearon: "Team effort - amazing animation of the art by Gareth Barker - and the music is the icing on the cake from Cris Velasco.
"Cooler than ice cold is that we're doing one each month!"

Ben Meares: "I had the pleasure of sitting over Gareth's shoulder for the vast majority of the build on this, and he has an understanding of the medium only matched by our ridiculously talented illustrator. We've got one hell of a team on this.
"The script for In The Hills, The Cities is rounding the bend to completion and I can promise you it will not disappoint! Giants made of people, illustrated by Sam [Shearon]? There's pretty much no way to go wrong.
"Next up is The Midnight Meat Train, and we are adapting every single Books of Blood story, all 6 volumes (over 30 short stories) in order of their original publication. Plus, there may be a few extra, lesser known Barker short stories thrown in there from time to time. But you didn't hear that from me."

Cris Velasco: "Similar to a movie or game, I generally start working on a volume towards the end. That way I can experience an entire build, determine the typical pacing someone might read through, and then craft the music in a way that I think will have the best flow. The music will generally loop until a new page is triggered. It's impossible for me to sync the music up exactly to the movement of the comic, but with some experimentation, I can do a pretty good job of creating a cinematic experience.
"Once I'm happy with the score, I'll take a trip over to Clive's house and meet with Ben Meares, the project lead on Books of Blood. We'll get the music implemented and then go through the comic a few times. Once all the music is approved, I'll have it mixed and each track will be edited to make a perfect loop. We'll do the final implementation and then call it a wrap until the next one!"
