Maury, Bustillo to remake 'Hellraiser'
Variety reports that French filmmakers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have been invited to write and direct a remake of Clive Barker's 1987 horror film "Hellraiser" for Dimension Films. Barker will produce.
Dimension hopes that it can emulate the success it has seen with it's recent re-working of "Halloween" in this film which has spawned a franchise around the tales of Pinhead and his demonic Cenobites.
The original film was written and directed by Barker, based on his novella The Hellbound Heart and follows the twisted love story of a woman whose lover has made a deal with dark forces, summoned with the help of a fiendish puzzle box.
Variety reports Weinstein Co. co-chairman Bob Weinstein: "Julien and Alex showed their incredible creative talent on 'Inside,' and I'm excited to have them at the helm, working with Clive Barker, to create a fresh, suspenseful and scary reimagining of the classic tale."
