Dimension Films announces revival of the Hellraiser franchise.

Variety report that Dimension Films is looking to writer Todd Farmer and director Patrick Lussier as key players in the rejuvenation of Clive Barker's Hellraiser and the associated franchise.

The 1987 original was based on the Clive Barker novella - The Hellbound Heart - about a woman who will give anything to help her lover escape the demonic Cenobites. The success of that release led to seven subsequent sequels, all featuring Doug Bradley as the iconic 'Pinhead'.

Barker, who directed the original, will produce the reboot along with Joe Daley and Anthony DiBlasi. Bob Weinstein and Matthew Stein will exec produce. Farmer and Lussier most recently worked together on "My Bloody Valentine,"

Production is expected to get under way next year for a late 2011 or early 2012 release.
